Data is a very sexy topic these days. Done well data can impact every nook and cranny of a healthcare organization. Done poorly enormous amounts of money and energy are wasted. There are two important moments in data’s life. The first is its moment of creation, when data is born. The second, when data is used to make a decision, to improve operations or to drive innovation. Much of the time, however, data just sits there, leading an incredibly boring existence. To truly bring data to life, leaders must address the “last mile” of analytics. The last mile is the gap between analytics output and changed behavior. It is the hardest part of the journey to get right, and has the greatest impact on value.
